La serie refleja el trabajo de las comadronas y monjas de la casa Nonnatus, un convento de enfermer\u00eda, y parte de una orden religiosa anglicana, haciendo frente a los problemas m\u00e9dicos en el barrio de extrema pobreza de Poplar en el East End de Londres, en las d\u00e9cadas de 1950 y de 1960. Las hermanas y parteras llevan a cabo m\u00faltiples deberes de enfermer\u00eda en toda la comunidad. Sin embargo, nacen entre 80 y 100 beb\u00e9s cada mes en Poplar y el trabajo principal es ayudar a las mujeres de la zona a tener un parto seguro y a cuidar de sus innumerables reci\u00e9n nacidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
